The Home Brewer's Beer Hopp weight Calculator
Freeware by Stephen E. Ellis
March 15, 1995
The files, HOPP-WT2, HOPP-WT3, and HOPP-WT4 compute the amount of Hopps in
ounces needed for a desired IBU (International Bitterness Units) rating.
See the enclosed reference chart for ratings of various beer types.
Use HOPP-WT4 if your extract/boil water ratio is 4/1. For example if you
boil 8 pounds of extract in 2 gallons of water. Use HOPP-WT3 if your
extract/boil water is 3/1. For example if you boil 6 pounds of extract
in 2 gallons of water. HOPP-WT2 would be for a 2/1 ratio.
You will be asked for the total water volume in gallons. If you are making
a five gallon batch, the answer would be 5. The next question will be the
The IBU rate you want. After that you will be asked to enter the alpha
rating of the hopps you intend to use (this number should be on the package
or available from your supplier). You will then be asked how long you are
going to boil and given the choice of 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
That's all there is to it...
